Price to make: $0.92
Yield: 18 cream puffs
Time: Prep – 10 minutes, Cook – 22 minutes
1 cup water
1/2 cup margarine
1 cup flour
1/2 tsp salt
4 eggs
- Preheat oven to 400.
- Combine water and margarine and melt over low heat.
- Stir in flour and salt until a smooth ball forms.
- Remove from heat.
- Mix in egg one at a time.
- Spoon onto cookie sheet and bake for 22 minutes.
- Prick top of puffs to let out steam.
- When cool, cut puffs in half and fill with desired cream or ice cream.
- Drizzle with chocolate syrup.
Tips: By step 4 when you remove from the heat, you have to work fast. Crack one egg at a time into the mixture and mix thoroughly so the egg gets incorporated before it cooks. When I made it, I think I didn’t leave it on the fire long enough because there was too much liquid. Therefore I had to bake them in muffin cups instead of on the cookie sheet. You can put whatever you would like inside, I ended up putting store bought custard inside. On top I put a cocoa glaze. Overall these were really great tasting.
